Montreal graphic design
Montreal is a city filled with creativity and design. From street art and architecture to fashion, posters and advertisements, graphic design can be seen almost everywhere. As a design student living in Montreal, I am constantly surrounded by different styles and ideas. The city’s culture has influenced the way I look at graphic design and has helped shape the type of work I enjoy creating.
Street Art and Murals
One of the biggest visual influences in Montreal is street art. Murals can be found all across the city and often use bold colours, interesting typography and unique illustrations. Areas like Saint-Laurent and the Plateau are filled with large murals that completely change the look of the streets. Seeing this type of artwork can inspire graphic designers because it shows how design can be large, expressive and connected to a public space.
Montreal’s Mix of Cultures
Montreal is also a city with many different cultures. French and English are both used throughout the city, while people from many different backgrounds bring their own traditions and styles. This mixture can influence graphic design through typography, colour, photography and language. Designers in Montreal often have to think about different audiences and how their work communicates with people from different backgrounds.

Music, Fashion and Events
Montreal’s music, fashion and event scene also has a strong influence on graphic design. Concert posters, festivals, clothing brands and nightlife advertisements all need strong visual identities. Walking around downtown, it is easy to see different posters and advertisements that use unique fonts, photography and layouts. These designs can give designers new ideas without them even realizing it.
How Montreal Influences My Own Work
Montreal has also influenced my own design style. I am interested in branding, clothing, logos and photography, so I often notice how these things are used around the city. I like seeing how local brands build their identity and how different neighbourhoods have their own visual style. Being surrounded by this has pushed me to experiment more with typography, photography and branding in my own projects.
Design Is Everywhere
Montreal shows that graphic design is not only something that exists on a computer. It is part of the city itself. Murals, posters, fashion, architecture and advertisements all contribute to Montreal’s visual identity. For me, living and studying design in Montreal means constantly being surrounded by new ideas and inspiration.
